The MCA Youth has revealed UKM Malaysian-Chinese new intake
is just around 290 people or 9% out of 3100 intake. Over the past recent years,
percentage of Malaysian-Chinese students in UKM has been decreasing which has
affected a lot of TiongHwa Clubs and activities that aim not only to unite UKM
students, but emphasize more on promoting TiongHwa cultures and sharing with
friends, regardless races and religions in order to attain objective of uniting
everyone in the country. These TiongHwa Clubs and activities have been doing
well on it.
Ethnicity imbalance among the students has caused some
TiongHwa Clubs and activities have no choice but to be discontinued sine die
while the rest are struggling for survival under the circumstances of seriously
lacking of members. Should such condition persists, all TiongHwa Clubs in UKM
will confront the worst situation that is to be terminated permanently. The
National University of Malaysia is a university for every Malaysian. One of the
essential targets of UKM ought to be achieving unity among Malaysians. Only by
getting along with everyone besides understanding, accepting and respecting
cultural diversity, unity among our citizen could be attained. Every single
person, every ethnic is needed in reaching the real unity. How could this
objective be possible if ethnicity ration in UKM is seriously imbalance?
Significant declining of Malaysian-Chinese new intake in UKM
has led to the curiosity and concerns of the public. The Chinese Community
Council (CCC) UKM urges the University and Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE)
to increase transparency of requirement and procedures of enrollment and make
admission list public, together with their results, so that the public would be
better aware of reasons why Malaysian-Chinese new intakes are reducing and seek
solutions together. It can also prove to everyone that there is no deviation
during process of student intake that targets on result-based and talents
appreciated.

background of issues:
Excellent CCC. Now I can see the quality of your new leadership. This is an issue that is worthy of a 'mahasiswa' standard. Merely posting the issue in your blog is not enough. You need to be more aggressive to pursue the matter. Try to conduct a public forum, road show, writing memorandum or petition to the relevant ministry or official. Make it big and create awareness among the students that CCC is there to fight for the interest of Chinese UKM students. You may be afraid to offend the 'pentadbiran UKM'. You have very little to lose as CCC is now an opposition party in PMUKM with only one MPP. So, go all out.
UKM Chinese students no response? no comments? nothing to say?
That is the reason why CCC needs to be more aggressive so that the Chinese students are aware of what CCC is doing. Posting in blog is only gear level 1. Move on to gear level 2.
I feel they are more agressive than before. I saw their news statement quite large in newspaper and NC said will give response next week. I suggest what they can is to wait for NC's reply and decide their next step. It's quite sad to see generations nowadays so lack of concern towards issues matter to them. We cannot blame on CCC for the students' lack of concern. I can see their efforts in raising students' concerns. share in fb, post press statement but just that the students don't even care. They just shout for having so few chinese students and that's all. Young generation today is very self-centered and care for nothing besides themselves. how terrible to have such young generation
回复删除just compare response in FB, you will see the diffence, Chinese dare to complain, not dare to speak up. things posted in Malays based UKM FB group will receive many suggestions and comments, while in Chinese based one, no like no response, how pathetic they are. If they are passive and ignorant of their rights, Superman also cant save them
CCC is trying its best to serve. We should be giving more suggestions, encouragements and praise for every effort they've done.
Aisehman. The Chinese students in UKM is already accepted and studying in UKM. Why need to worry since they already have a place in government university? Whereas for those Chinese STPM/Matriks students, it is premature for them to worry now. After all, they can always choose to apply into other universities like UM, UPM etc. For the Chinese who have the money, they can always study in private colleges and foreign universities. I don't see any issue at all.
回复删除how about those who don't have money??
回复删除when it comes to higher education, a chinese can either be not clever but rich to enter private college or clever but poor to enter public university. if a chinese is not clever and poor at the same time, don't bother to think about studying for higher education. you have no right to complain. this is the reality.
回复删除how can you judge if a person is clever or not? Does it mean he/she is clever if he/she gets into public university? Does it also mean he/she is not clever if he/she gets into public university? Please look at the examples of past years
回复删除that is my observation on chinese students in malaysia. the more affluent or rich will usually go to overseas uni or local private uni. they can be either good or bad in academics. the less affluent or lower income chinese will usually go into local public uni provided they are good in academics. the most extreme cases are those with lower income and also bad results. they have nowhere to go. cannot apply for public uni and cannot afford to pay expensive tuition fees for overseas or private college. they will not get scholarship either.
UPM - 22.39%
UM -31.45%
UKM? 11% then reduce to 9% due to the absent of the student.
why only ukm have 11%??is way below than average man! please speak based on figures or fact. Not by I assume, I observe. Is it student doesn't wan to enter ukm or some other reason? CCC kindly urge the authority to state the reason.
What is the point of UKM bearing the name 'Kebangsaan' where in reality, the Chinese enrollment is only 9% whereas our national Chinese population is 20%? That is not 'Kebangsaan' to me at all. Just cosmetics? What is the MCA Youth Chief Dr. Wee Ka Siong doing?
回复删除“The government used taxes from the people to develop the country, but who contributed the most in taxes? “The Chinese! Their success in business has made them the biggest contributors in taxes.” This is what Mahathir said in a forum in 2006 during a forum of Kedah Malay Assembly Hall in Alor Star.
By having a very low Chinese enrollment into UKM, this is an insult to the Chinese taxpayers. CCC, please do something.
try to google 'ccc ukm'. the 1st result is the ccc blog. the 2nd result is the gmukm blog. funny.....
Good evening everyone. We are working on it. Will update everyone very soon. Thank You for your concern!
